The story of Yusuf from Latakia, Syria, is an example of strong human resilience in times of crisis. On the eve of the earthquake, his daughter was born. But his joy did not last long. A few hours later, a powerful earthquake struck northern Syria, changing the lives of thousands of people.<\/div>\n

\u201eMy wife gave birth on February 5, 2023 in the evening. We gave birth to a healthy baby girl. That night I fell asleep with tears in my eyes and a feeling of overwhelming happiness. At 4:15, however, the earth began to shake and our apartment with it. I rushed to see my wife, who was recovering from childbirth. I took my baby daughter in my arms and we quickly ran up the stairs from the third floor. We waited on the street in the cool of the night, looking at our house, which was beginning to crumble before my eyes. Tears flooded my face for the second time... The consolation, however, was that I, my little girl and my wife made it out okay. Our neighbours, however, were not so lucky,\u201c one local resident shared his story.<\/div>\n

ADRA also played a key role in providing aid after the disaster. \u201eThe earthquake took the roof off our heads. I also lost my job as we live in a remote area with non-functional transport and my employer refused to accept my repeated delays. I was thus unable to provide for my family. I therefore thank ADRA for helping us with basic needs in these difficult times,\u201c says Yusuf.<\/div>\n

We are also helping with the reconstruction and mitigation of the tragedy. Right now in Latakia, we are starting a water network rehabilitation project that will provide safe access to water for more than 30,000 local residents.<\/div>\n
