The training program for TOTs continues at our farm. We have engaged another 50 smallholder farmers, 35 of whom are refugees and 15 are from the local community.<\/p>\n
Each farmer-trainer passes on his experience as well as tools and seeds to at least 10 of his neighbours. Together, this cycle will help more than 550 other families to make a living from their own gardens, as well as to find employment in the local market.<\/p>\n
Some travel up to 2 hours for training from a completely different corner of the refugee area. But they are happy because they have been given a chance that will help them to transform their gardens and become self-sufficient. <\/p>\n
In the second cycle, our team provides them with valuable information and experience on topics such as: farming practices, plant protection, diseases and pests, fertilization, irrigation, etc.<\/p>\n
The training lasts for three days and has both theoretical and practical parts, during which they will try out some of the activities on our DEMO farm. Besides valuable knowledge, they will also take home water barrels, buckets, sprayers, chemicals for themselves and their team. During the lunch together there was already a really convivial atmosphere...<\/p>\n
OPM (the Office of the Refugee Management Minister) and UNHCR recognized our program as the best agricultural development project that is making a lasting difference and helping refugees achieve food self-sufficiency and integration into their lives.<\/p>\n
ADRA Slovakia has currently sent two volunteers (one within the SlovakAID project) for a long-term stay to help manage the activities and the running of the farm so that it gradually reaches long-term sustainability and becomes self-sustainable.<\/p>\n
