\"\"<\/span>The YIDA school, which we support as part of the HELPKIDS programme, is the only one that provides children with a hot meal every day in addition to their education. In the kindergarten, the children receive maize porridge and in the primary school they receive rice and beans, or peanut sauce and banana porridge \u201ematoke\u201c, etc. For some children this is the only proper meal of the day. And it is also a good motivation to go to school. Parents, in turn, are happy to send their children to school, from where they come back fed...<\/p>\n

Kyaka II, is one of the refugee camps in western Uganda near the border with Congo. It is home to 139 000 refugees, mainly from the Democratic Republic of Congo, South Sudan, Rwanda and Burundi. 35% children in the camp suffer from malnutrition, not so much because they are starving, but mainly because of the poor and unbalanced diet. Thanks to donors from Slovakia, they no longer cook in a cauldron on a fire, but have a proper kitchen stove in both the kindergarten and primary school. Every day they prepare 120 litres of maize porridge with milk for 250 children in the kindergarten and rice, beans, matoke, cassava and gravy for more than 500 children in the primary school. Pupils help with food distribution, washing dishes... It was a joy to see that everything works as it should.
\"\"Following the US administration's decision to cut spending in support of humanitarian programmes around the world, a number of organisations that had been operating here have ended their assistance. ADRA remains. We work with ADRA teams from Denmark, Sweden, Uganda, Norway, Finland, Canada... The Slovak ADRA supports the hospital, but mainly we run a farm and a training program where people receive seeds, seedlings, tools and training on how to grow vegetables for their own livelihood. And through the HELPKIDS program, we support education and food for the YIDA kindergarten and primary school.<\/p>\n
