On Thursday, May 21, a fire broke out in Telgart. It wasn't some wooden shacks - as it was a short time ago - but two serious two-storey brick buildings - 39 people lost the roof over their heads, Aid and Health Assistant Ms Dunk said.<\/p>\n

\"\"Several families with small children lived in the houses. Fortunately, no one was injured and everyone managed to run out of the houses at the last moment. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The owners of the houses showed us the catastrophic devastation... The structural engineers are still working out whether the houses will be habitable or whether they are so damaged that they will have to be demolished.<\/p>\n

That evening we received a phone call from our relief coordinator asking for help. I was just getting ready to go to Eastern Slovakia. Thanks to the SOS Slovakia programme, we have food and hygiene packages, mattresses, blankets, clothes in our warehouse... I immediately packed the van and the next morning we were able to give the affected families the essentials for the next few weeks.<\/p>\n
