This week we loaded a truck with 36 electrically operated reclining beds and nightstands. Its journey took it from Austria to the north-east of Ukraine, to a home for the elderly in the Sumy region.<\/p>\n

\"\"This assistance is backed by the cooperation of several partners. The donor of the equipment is the PBZ Tulln facility for the elderly near Vienna. Thanks to our colleagues from ADRA Austria, our volunteers and our Ukrainian partner Perlina zdorovia, we managed to arrange the loading, transport and handover of the equipment directly at the facility.<\/p>\n

It may seem at first glance that it is \u201ejust\u201c about beds. However, in a home where 96 clients live, they represent a significant improvement to everyday life. Of the total number of residents, 39 are disabled and up to 64 clients are bedridden.<\/p>\n

Electrically operated reclining beds have been lacking in the facility to date. For the clients, they mean greater comfort and more dignified conditions. They will also make it easier for staff to care for people who depend on others for daily care.<\/p>\n

The Sumy region is one of the regions that has long been marked by war. Many communities here are operating in difficult conditions and any aid that can improve the lives of vulnerable people is of great importance.<\/p>\n

As we watched the beds being loaded onto the truck, we realised that it's not just about moving furniture from one place to another. It's about showing solidarity between people who will never meet each other, but can still help each other.<\/p>\n
