How does it taste to the homeless?

ADRA Belgium won a special award for its innovative project.

The project of a mobile street food stall, the „Social Food Truck,“ was created in response to the food crisis in Belgium. With this ambitious project, ADRA wants to make quality and wholesome food available to the most vulnerable groups in different locations in French-speaking Belgium.
In a mobile refreshment stand, ADRA Belgium staff and volunteers prepare high-quality vegetarian meals for homeless people and students from underprivileged families.
Our director Stano Bielik, who was invited to such an unusual lunch during the ADRA directors' meeting in Brussels, saw it with his own eyes (and especially his palate). After all, why shouldn't the directors exchange places with homeless people for a few moments and experience how the Brussels homeless dine.

As he says: „I was expecting all sorts of things... But the food was exceptionally good. Ironically, we had to note that homeless people in Brussels dine like directors. They provide homeless people and students from disadvantaged backgrounds with a wholesome and, above all, healthy and nutritious meal. Our menu included a salad with vegetables, a veggie burger, and a fruit drink. Everything was packaged in recyclable packaging, as the project includes the concept of „zero waste,“ or zero waste, which promotes the reuse of all resources without creating waste.“
For its ecological and socially innovative project, ADRA was awarded the Most Innovative Non-Profit Organization of 2022.
But that's not all! A real rarity is an advertising leaflet, printed on special paper, in which the seeds are pressed.

„Instead of throwing it in the trash, you soak it for 72 hours and the seeds germinate. You then cover it with dirt somewhere in the bed. The paper will fertilise the seeds and flowers will grow. It makes the gardener in me squeal,“ adds our director with a smile.

The slogan of the project „EAT GOOD, DO GOOD, FEEL GOOD“ really describes the reality in this case.

Congratulations to our Belgian colleagues for an innovative and inspiring project!
