Asante Ushindi

Age/Gender: By birth. 2013, girl

Asante lives with his seven siblings in the Kyaka II refugee settlement in Uganda. In a small mud-brick hut covered with a cage, a family of ten crowds...

Mother Aline Uwimana Together with their father, they are trying to take care of their children, six of whom are about to start school. However, they do not have enough money for school fees, supplies and school uniforms. Last year, Asante was the only one who could go to school. The Osat children skipped school until their mother earned some money.

Teachers at our YIDA school have noticed that children are increasingly absent from class. So they visited the family to find out their situation. The father has health problems and is unable to do heavier work, so their income is insufficient. Finding permanent employment in the refugee settlement is almost impossible, so the parents look for casual work with the local community.

The family was granted support from the WFP (World Food Programme), amounting to 12,000 UGX = 2.8 Euros per person per month. How they manage to survive on this is a mystery to us... When they get food, there is no money left for school.

Therefore, YIDA school social workers enrolled the children in a sponsorship programme so that the children could attend school normally.

Join the donors and give another child a chance to go to school and later in life.

Sponsorship support needed: 20.-€/month,

Sponsorship will cover: With your support through Help Kids, you will provide one child every day with a hot meal, school uniform, school supplies and basic health care - first aid for school children.
