The number of reported cases of domestic and sexual violence has increased by 80 % in recent years. The number of victims seeking help has increased from 20 % to 54 %. That is why a year ago, ADRA Slovakia's workers decided to speak out about violence and not stay silent. But most importantly, they will comprehensively help victims of violence within the ADRA KIT (Crisis Intervention Team). But for it to work effectively, six responsible donors are needed who will also say NO to violence.
ADRA KIT (Crisis Intervention Team) highlights the signs of violence and abuse, organises discussions on the topic and provides long-term comprehensive assistance to victims of violence - legal, psychological and social. Daniela Borzová, lawyer and co-founder of KIT, reminds: „Everyone has the right to live in dignity and security. But victims of violence and abuse cannot help themselves. It often takes years for them to decide to seek help, and the consequences of the violence are often borne by their children. Many of them later repeat what they have learned at home or become victims themselves. If we want to have a healthy society, we need to draw attention to violence, help its victims and promote healthy relationships. If you suspect that someone in your neighbourhood is experiencing violence or abuse, start speaking up about violence. Help that person to recognise the signs of an abusive relationship, listen to them and refer them for professional help. Contact our KIT.“
In the first 12 months, ADRA KIT has helped, or is still helping and counselling almost two dozen victims free of charge. Now the general public - either individuals, single women or entire collectives and companies - can also give victims of violence a life with dignity - just by joining the „Life with Dignity“ campaign and becoming one of the six responsible donors who will also say NO to violence.
ADRA KIT is looking for six responsible companies, which wants to support long-term and comprehensive professional assistance to victims of domestic and sexual violence in Slovakia. In order to be able to operate for another year, KIT needs to cover the costs of fees for the work done in the legal and psycho-social field, as well as the cost of petrol for trips - crisis intervention in the field.
The Director of ADRA Slovakia, Daniel Kaba, recalls the alarming situation of domestic violence in Slovakia: „In Slovakia, currently up to 33 % women are living in a violent relationship. and 49 % women over 15 years of age have experienced sexual violence at least once in their lifetime. Every week, new victims of violence contact us by email with their painful story. That is why we strive to help these persons to build a new life with dignity. Be a part of it.“
