Deo lives with her parents and seven siblings in a mud hut in the Kyaka II refugee camp in Uganda. The breadwinner of the family is the father, who does not have a steady job, only looking for odd jobs. He finds it difficult to provide food for the family and school fees for the children.

Older children are already in high school, which is even more costly. Support from the WFP (World Food Programme) for refugees has been stopped and the family has lost a significant source of funding for the children's school fees. 

The family approached the YIDA school with a request to be included in the HelpKids sponsorship program so that the children could continue their education.  

The mother has opened a small stall on the side of the road where she sells trinkets, the father scrounges for odd jobs in exchange for food to keep the family fed. Neighbors help take care of the children while the parents work. 

But thanks to the HelpKids programme, we will help Deo to continue his studies and finish primary school.
