How to spot a manipulator in a relationship (invitation to a discussion in Nitra)

Members Crisis Intervention Team (KIT) of ADRA Slovakia have had several public discussions right at the beginning of 2019. They entered the new year with a resolution: to continue to speak out about violence, to organize more awareness-raising activities and educational events for different target groups in Slovakia. Because in addition to crisis intervention, social rehabilitation and adaptation of male and female clients and advocacy prevention is also important.

After the first two discussions in Bratislava (on 9 February at the UNIK KC and on 12 March at FSEV UK) and one in Banská Bystrica (on 9 March at the CASD), this time KIT moves to Nitra. The event will take place in Wednesday (27th March) from 6pm in the Trafačka Photo Gallery at 65 Janka Kráľa Street in Nitra under the name „How to detect a manipulator in a relationship„.

The discussion is directed primarily at young people who are in the process of falling in love, building a relationship and do not know the warning signs that they may be in a violent relationship.

There are more and more stories like this (not only on the movie screen): he was funny at the beginning of the relationship, she was totally in love with him. But suddenly she doesn't understand his actions. He makes increasingly frequent jealous scenes, forbids her to meet his friends, monitors her mobile communications, raises his voice, makes himself the victim during an argument and drives her into a corner, while lying to her himself behind her back. Maybe once a slap has fallen. But only once. And she puts the blame on herself and justifies his actions in front of others and herself... How can it turn out after a few years of cohabitation? A script retold as if through a photocopier one in three women in the world and in Slovakia. This is not right.

KIT experts will therefore help young people during the March discussion in Nitra recognise signs of manipulation in a relationship, they will also outline - how such situations and violent relationships can be addressed and prevented. Attendees will also learn what to do if they witness domestic or sexual violence in their neighbourhood. Daniela Borzová (lawyer) together with her colleagues (psychologist and/or social worker) from the Crisis Intervention Team will patiently answer all questions from the audience.

If you want to learn more about the topic, or just to make sure that your relationship is not toxic and is moving in the right direction - come to the Photo Gallery Trafačka in March. There will be an open discussion about a still taboo topic from behind the closed doors of our homes. Because violence cannot be kept silent.

Admission to the discussion is free, catering provided. After the discussion, a short individual consultation with a lawyer and a psychologist - members of ADRA KIT. If you miss this March event directed by members of the Crisis Intervention Team (KIT) of ADRA Slovakia, we will come back to the issue of detection, resolution and prevention of abusive relationships in one of the the following events in the coming weeks (e.g. on 18 April again in Bratislava). Watch also events posted on our Facebook page here.

The event is implemented thanks to the support of the Ministry of the Interior of the Slovak Republic within the Crime Prevention 2018 project. More about our comprehensive assistance to victims of violence can be found on the website: https://www.adra.sk/pomoc-obetiam-nasilia-kit/
