Volunteering in Uganda

As part of the EU Aid Volunteers initiative, we will soon be sending 3 male and 3 female volunteers to Uganda. During the pre-departure preparation, ADRA Director, Stano Bielik, visited the partner organizations where the volunteers will be working.

Samuel from the organisation Uganda Pioneers‘ Association drove him around the slums on the outskirts of Kampala, where thousands of people live in humble dwellings, without land and with minimal job opportunities. Life here is far from easy. And that's why our partners operate here:

Organisation Sustainable Youth Development Foundation founded by Dixon in 2015. For 7 years, he has been helping street children, motivating them to get at least a basic education and learn a practical trade to support themselves. Otherwise, they will become vagrants who will be left to petty theft, drugs and prostitution, just like many other children without an education. Thanks to the SYDF project, children and young people are learning simple but practical crafts. They make eco-bags, sandals, glue books or learn to sew. SYDF also organises drug prevention activities and counsels girls on periodic hygiene. In recent years, as many as 15,000 children and young people have found help here, enabling them to stand on their own feet and secure their livelihoods.

The organisation MCAFS (Masanafu Child and Family Support) runs a training centre and a library full of books to help children with tutoring, teach them basic hygiene habits and create a safe environment so that even troubled children can gradually return to their families and school.

We are delighted that our volunteers will be able to pass on their professional experience and contribute to the development of our partner organisations. Their contribution will also enable our partners to help even more effectively in this challenging environment on the outskirts of Kampala.
