The other 4 schools were given large generators to serve as backup power sources.
There is no end to the electricity supply problems in the east of Ukraine. Most hospitals already have their generator, so the local government asked us to focus on schools. When sirens announce an air raid alert, all children have to be moved to underground shelters - often several times a day. If the electricity goes out on top of that, they stay underground in the dark and the ventilation doesn't even work...
Thanks to the generosity of our donor - ESET Foundation and other private donors, we were able to purchase and transport 4 large generators (50-100kW) and 2 smaller generators (up to 5kW) from Slovakia to Chernihiv. The only thing left to do is to transport them directly to the schools. It was not easy to find a transporter who has a car with hydraulics and, most importantly, will be willing to send his driver to the villages where it is dangerous, because they are almost every day the target of shelling. Finally, a willing person was found and helped us transport and deliver the generators directly to the Lyceum in Novgorod Siversky and to the schools in the villages of Mryn, Korope and Brovari.
Representatives of the regional school administration did not spare words of gratitude. „Slovakia is a small country, but we receive a lot of extremely valuable help from you. Few organizations bring any help to this forgotten corner of the world. But ADRA does not forget us and we appreciate that very much.“
In Chernihiv, we have reconstructed several kindergartens where we have replaced windows and roofs destroyed by explosions, provided reconstruction of underground shelters for children, supplied hospitals in the area with medical supplies, and transported food and hygiene packages for families in need. Thanks are also due to our partners from the humanitarian organization „Pearl of Health“, who take care of the distribution and delivery of aid directly into the hands of the beneficiaries.
