Leonald Exosier

Age/Gender: born in 2011, girl

Parent: Papi Leonald – guardian

Exosier is one of six children in a family living in the KYAKA II refugee camp in Uganda. Five of the six children have already started school. The father has back problems resulting from injuries he sustained, which have limited his ability to provide for the family. He experiences severe pain when doing heavy work, so he is unable to contribute financially to the household. All responsibility for meeting the children’s basic needs and ensuring their education has thus fallen on the mother, which is an unbearable burden for her. This situation compelled the parents to visit the YIDA school office and ask for help with their children’s education.

The family gets along well with their neighbors. They live in a small mud house with a thatched roof made of straw and reeds.

In the past, the family relied on assistance from the World Food Program (WFP), which later ended. The mother now cultivates a small plot of land that was allocated to the family, and they use the harvest as a source of livelihood. In addition, she does odd jobs in the community to earn money for her children’s school fees.

This assistance is intended to ensure the child's education and cover his or her basic needs.
