Severe winter, destroyed power plants, problems with heat and water supply. Paradoxically, people go out of their cold flats to warm themselves in heated tents, which they call „centres of indomitability“. Years ago, Ukraine was supposed to be destroyed by famine; now, paradoxically, it is a cold war. This is also the shape of the winter of 2026.
Thanks to support from public collection „Warmth for Ukraine,“ in record time, we purchased and delivered 16 large generators to Kiev on two trucks. In the courtyard of Kiev City Hall we had the opportunity to officially hand them over to Mayor Vitali Klitschko, who was very impressed. „I want to thank the 20 000 Slovaks who managed to raise more than EUR 1 100 000 in a short time to help us in these difficult times. We will never forget the help of our friends...“
Stano Bielik from ADRA Slovakia, in turn, wished Klitschko that no more generators would be needed as soon as possible and that life in Ukraine could return to normal.
After the formalities comes the serious work - taking each generator to where it will serve. Schools, kindergartens, aid centres, medical facilities, institutions providing water, heating... We unload the biggest generators directly from the trucks. Cranes, firefighters, volunteers...
The headmistress of a school with more than 1,000 children asks where are the students? „At the moment, classes are being taught online because the electricity is only intermittent and the school is cold. However, many children are sitting at home without electricity and internet so they are unable to connect to classes. I can't tell you how grateful we are for your donation. We received the generator just in time and it will help provide light and heat. The kitchen will start cooking again so the children can get a hot lunch...“
Our colleagues from ADRA Ukraine are helping us to arrange all the logistics so that each generator is handed over and connected to the network in a short time in each institution where it is to serve.
Thank you to all the generous and selfless people in Slovakia. Once again we have confirmed that many small donations can turn into a big act of help. I really felt very proud to belong to a nation that has a sensitive heart to the suffering of other people...
