Hamidu Muhindo

Age/Gender: By birth. 2014, male

Parent/Guardian: Tumani Pendeza - mother

Hamidu lives with his six siblings and his mother in the Kyaka II refugee area in Uganda. Mama Tumaini Pendeza - a refugee from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), fled to Uganda with her five children after the tragic loss of her husband to violence in the Congo. Upon arrival in Uganda, she faced enormous challenges as she finds life in the refugee settlement extremely difficult and is unable to provide basic necessities for her children. Therefore, she decided to marry another man from the settlement. However, this brought her further complications. After she had two more children with her new husband (seven in total), her new husband left her and returned to his first wife, with whom he has eight children of his own. Tumaini is now responsible for all seven children, which is very difficult for a single woman. She struggles to provide for their basic needs, but is unable to ensure that the children have access to education.

Many refugee women in Uganda are similarly vulnerable, having to shoulder the burden of responsibility for an entire family in an extremely difficult situation.

Family situation:

Tumaini lives in a thatched hut, which is very old and small. However, she has a good relationship with her neighbours who help her when she is unable to get food for her children. The family receives a small amount of financial support each month in the form of humanitarian aid from the WFP (World Food Programme). In addition, Tumaini received a loan of UGX 110 000 (EUR 28) from a savings company, which enabled her to buy small goods and start her own „business“ in the market. This helps her to provide food for her children, but it is still not enough to ensure the education of her seven children.

Sponsorship support needed: 20.-€/month,

Sponsorship will cover: With your support through Help Kids, you will provide one child every day with a hot meal, school uniform, school supplies and basic health care - first aid for school children.

Hamidu Muhindo has already found a donor family.
