We are looking for a volunteer in Uganda

Do you have digital or communication skills and want to use them to support people in one of Africa's most inspiring countries? Join 10 months to the team ADRA Uganda and help change people's lives through technology, education and stories that deserve to be heard.

Uganda is home to nearly two million refugees and countless communities facing challenges related to access to education, livelihoods and healthcare. ADRA Uganda has been working since 1987 and since 1999 has been intensively helping refugees in camps such as Kyaka II, Bidi Bidi and Rwarwanja.

The project focuses on strengthening digital and communication capacities local actors, in particular the ADRA Uganda team, to implement development and humanitarian projects more effectively.

Through his or her work, the volunteer will contribute to raising the visibility of important issues such as the right to education and environmental protection, and will leave behind a lasting legacy in the form of educational materials and tools that will be used by the local organisation after the volunteer's departure.

Description of activity

The volunteer will be primarily dedicated to building the digital and communication capacity of ADRA Uganda staff:
- IT and software skills training
- creation of educational materials and manuals
- providing workshops at different levels of sophistication
- analysis of staff needs and design of individual training plans
- support in social media management, content creation and online communication
- translations and assistance in creating PR outputs (newsletters, blogs, campaigns)
- participation in the field in documenting activities and creating success stories
- preparation of documents for reporting

  • The costs of volunteering, including flights, insurance, vaccinations, are fully covered by ADRA and donors. Volunteers receive a monthly pocket allowance (lump sum) of €850 net to cover additional costs in the field. These costs include e.g. food, local travel costs, communication, etc.

Requirements

  • education or experience in IT, digital literacy, programming, network administration, graphic design or related fields
  • experience in teaching or training in ICT - an advantage
  • Advanced office suite skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Workspace)
  • basics of network infrastructure, software installation and hardware maintenance
  • Experience with digital learning tools (Canva, Moodle, Kahoot, Zoom, WordPress)
  • interest in creating digital content (graphics, videos, presentations)
  • English at an advanced level (communication, training, preparation of materials)
  • Patience and ability to work with people with varying levels of digital skills
  • cultural sensitivity and the ability to adapt to simpler conditions
  • Communication and facilitation skills, ability to lead group and individual training sessions
  • basics of programming (HTML/CSS, Python, Scratch) - an advantage
