Hygiene training for schoolchildren in Lebanon

Quality education begins where children feel safe and are provided with basic hygiene needs. As part of our joint project to improve the school environment, our partner ADRA Lebanon a series of hygiene trainings in the Bika and Baalbek/Hermel regions in the east of the country.

1,131 pupils (both Lebanese and Syrian children) from grades 5 to 9 successfully completed the hygiene training. Our aim was to teach children practical habits that protect their health:
  • Personal hygiene and proper hand washing,
  • Prevention of infectious diseases,
  • Principles of menstrual hygiene (special blocks designed for girls of pubertal age).

But education is only the first step for us. We realize that theory without background is not enough. That is why we are planning to start renovation work on these schools in the coming months.

Our plan is:

  • Repairing neglected classrooms so that children learn in decent conditions,
  • Reconstruction of social facilities that are key to disease prevention and inclusion of girls.

We believe that every child deserves an environment that is safe, hygienic and motivating. Because the journey to education starts with the obvious, such as a working sink and a clean classroom.
