Kazungu Miriam
Age/Gender: By birth. 2017, girl
Parent: Nsengnunva Kayogera - father
Miriam lives with his eight siblings in the Kyaka II refugee settlement in Uganda.
The family is being looked after by the father, Nsengnunva Kayogera, who lost his wife in December 2025 and was left alone with eight children, the youngest of whom is just a year old. Six of the children should be in school, two are still too young.
He has big problems how to take care of all the children by himself and at least get food for them. He can't look for a job because he is on his own. The only support he receives is from the WFP (World Food Programme) and also a little support from the believers in the local church.
The children stopped going to school because the father could not afford to pay even the basic school fees and school supplies.
Previously, the children were cared for by the wife and the husband worked in the fields and took care of the children's livelihood as a small farmer. When his wife fell ill, he had to leave his work and take care of the children and his sick wife. Already at that time the church began to help them. However, his wife succumbed to her illness and the father was left alone, dependent on the help of others.
The situation is complicated by the fact that WFP assistance was tied to the wife, who was listed as the breadwinner in UNHCR's records. Due to the administrative bureaucracy, the father is having trouble getting access to the support, which amounts to 12,000 UGX = 2.8 Euros per person per month...
The family lives in an earthen dwelling in the area of the refugee camp.
Teachers from our YIDA school visited the family, found out their situation and accepted the father's request to include their family in the Help Kids sponsorship program.
Join the donors and give another child a chance to go to school and later in life.
Sponsorship support needed: 20.-€/month,
Sponsorship will cover: With your support through Help Kids, you will provide one child every day with a hot meal, school uniform, school supplies and basic health care - first aid for school children.
I want to support the HelpKids Kyjaka II program.
I hereby commit myself to systematically support the child's education:
