Substances for the students of the Černihiv apprenticeship

How the dream of fabrics became a reality.

Stanislav Bielik, Director of ADRA Slovakia

A few months ago, we started preparations for a roof reconstruction and window replacement project at the Chernihiv Vocational School. During a visit to the tailoring workshop for students, the headmistress told us: „I wish you could get us some pieces of fabric so we could teach the students to sew.“ At that time, I just listened to her and replied vaguely because I could not promise such help.

On my way back home, still on the road, I received a phone call from a friend: „I have this urge to call you, I don't even know why. I closed my tailoring business some time ago and I had some fabric left over. Couldn't you, as ADRA, use it somehow?“

The word gave the word, the deed gave the deed. In the end we had a full large supply of fabric, buttons, thread and other materials for the entire sewing workshop. We packed 7 full pallets and shipped them to Chernihiv Vocational School. The headmistress and her colleagues were extremely happy.

„I'm beginning to believe in miracles with you,“ she said, giving us all a hug. „Now we have a supply of substances for a long time. Among our students are many displaced or children from underprivileged families. Now they get a chance to sew for themselves what they need. And I can't wait to see how our school creates a new custom clothing collection.“

Service in humanitarian aid writes such stories too. Someone has specific needs, someone else can fill them, and someone above us knows about both. Our mission is just to put it together and move it along to make a good thing happen.
