The mask of Joan

Age/Gender: By birth. 2008, girl

Parent/Guardian: Beatrice Kavuo - Beatrice's mother - pictured with her youngest, Calvin - lived in the Kyaka II refugee settlement with her husband and their three children. Sadly, her husband died in November 2025, leaving her as the sole breadwinner of the family.

We don't currently have a photo of Joan as she lives with her aunt. However, if we get a donor, she will return to her mother and to Yida School who will provide a current photo.

Over time, the mother began to face serious economic difficulties and was unable to provide for even the most basic needs of her family. Sometimes she could not afford to provide even one meal a day for her children.

Because of this difficult situation, she was forced to send her two children to live with her sister in another district, Kagadi, in the hope that they would receive better care and support. Currently, Beatrice remains in the Kyaka II refugee settlement with only her youngest, Calvin, and continues to struggle to provide for her daily needs.

In order to work, she needs even the smallest child to be able to go to kindergarten.

She works as a security guard at the concierge desk on the hospital campus and at our Slovak Farm. She sends the money she earns to her sister so that she can provide food for the children, but this does not allow her to pay their school fees.

After the teachers of our YIDA school visited her and found out that the children were living far away from their mother, they started looking for a solution. We are looking for donors for all three children so that they can return to their mother and go to school here.

But thanks to the HelpKids programme, we will help Calvin, Bira and Joan to live with their mother and go to school.

Sponsorship support needed: 20.-€/month,

Sponsorship will cover: With your support through Help Kids, you will provide one child every day with a hot meal, school uniform, school supplies and basic health care - first aid for school children.

The mask of Joan has already found a donor family.
THANK YOU!🙂
