Our humanitarian team has once again delivered and distributed humanitarian aid to the remotest corners of eastern Ukraine.
From the donor OneMed from Sweden, we delivered another truck of medical supplies to Chernihiv. Just at that time, an urgent request came from the hospital in Shostka that they were short of dressing and sterile material. So
we operatively loaded 7 pallets and the next day early in the morning they were on their way. The navigation was haphazard because the GPS signal was dropping out again, which is a sure sign that it will be „hot“ today too. The town is located in an area where combat operations are ongoing and it is a frequent target of rocket attacks and shelling.
The local coordinator (names withheld) was waiting outside the last checkpoint and took us directly to the hospital. A team of medical staff was already ready to express unload dressing and sterile material, surgical garments, infusion sets, catheters, disposable diapers, and a variety of other most needed supplies.
The head doctor told us: „You can't imagine how valuable this help is to us. Everything you have brought is extremely necessary at this time. We don't put it in storage, but directly to the wards where they are waiting for it...“
During a small tour of the hospital wards, we met doctors, paramedics, and patients who were extremely grateful.
After a few hours we leave the city, passing by the cemetery where we see dozens of fresh graves. I find it too many heroes for such a small town. The further we get away the more I am plagued with the feeling and concern for those brave medics who stayed behind to serve and carry out their mission. (At night we received reports of more shelling of the town...)
The donor is the company OneMed - distributor of medical supplies, partner ADRA Sweden and the organization Direct Ukraine. Thanks for cooperation and coordination.
