Mwadjuma LatoutNeige Elody
Age/Gender: By birth. 2021, girl
Parent: Amazon Bauma – nanny
Mwadjume is an orphan cared for by Amazone, who has two children of her own and, in addition to Mwadjume, one other orphan, so she is caring for a total of four children. As a result, the family has difficulty providing for the children’s basic needs and paying their school fees.
Mwadjume's mother died in childbirth, so Amazone adopted her.
Faced with difficulties in providing for her family, the foster mother, Mwadjume Amazone, decided to visit the YIDA office to request support for the children’s education. Previously, all four children were enrolled in YIDA schools, but when their lives became difficult, they decided to transfer one of the orphans to a public school and keep the others in YIDA schools. This situation traumatized them, especially since public schools do not provide the same quality of education. For this reason, they continue to visit the YIDA office whenever they need support for the children.
Mwadjume lives with her foster mother and her husband in a thatched-roof house in the Kyaka II refugee settlement, along with the other children.
The foster mother's husband does odd jobs in the local community in exchange for food, which is their main source of income. They used to rely on monthly food rations, but later the WFP stopped supporting the family, which made their lives much harder and led to one of the orphans having to change schools.
This assistance is intended to ensure the child's education and cover his or her basic needs.
