Helping to restart DSS Pezinok

„Thank you. We did it together“! proclaims a banner on the balcony of the Pezinok home for the elderly, where COVID-19 claimed the most victims. Before the coronary crisis, 94 seniors lived in the home. The epidemic here had a sharp increase, up to 57 clients became infected and 17 died.
Strict quarantine measures required the disposal of all contaminated blankets, bed linen, complete disinfection of everything... And now it's like starting from scratch again.

ADRA is also helping to bring life back to normal in this home. We brought 40 new blankets that will be used to furnish the entire renovated ward. This is a donation from our partner organisation ADRA Austria. We have also supplied vitamin supplements for the seniors and staff to help them strengthen their immunity during this dangerous period.

The tragic story of DSS Pezinok paradoxically helped to save many residents of other homes, where they immediately began to strictly observe all quarantine measures. This is one of the reasons why we in Slovakia were able to save our seniors.

Strict quarantine measures are still in place. We had our temperature taken at the concierge's desk, registered and filled out a health questionnaire. The grateful and mostly dedicated staff of the home took our help and then chatted. Weeks spent in protective suits, looking death in the eye and fighting an invisible enemy are impressions that will remain etched in their memories forever. And we left with the conviction that we had just met heroes... Thank you.
