Aid for Ukraine

ADRA Slovakia set up its main aid tent on the border with Ukraine in Vyshne Nemetsko.

ADRA volunteers in cooperation with People in Danger volunteers provide shelter, warmth, refreshments, a program for children, transportation to the cities, etc. in our rest zone. It is an advantage that many of our volunteers speak Ukrainian.

The organisations have set up a tent city and after the initial confusion (when everyone wants to help as best they can), today the assistance at the border crossing Vyšné Nemecké has a system in place and the organisations and agencies are working well together to provide basic needs and services to the arriving refugees.

The Director of ADRA SK together with colleagues from ADRA CZ just returned from Ukraine, where they coordinated our assistance with our partner ADRA UA in Mukachevo. The queues at the border from the Ukrainian side are several kilometres long. That's why we crossed the crossing on foot.

The situation in Ukraine is complicated. According to local information, more than 3 million people have moved to areas in the west of Ukraine. They are mostly eager to return home or cross the border into the EU after the fighting has subsided.

Unfortunately, we had to conclude that this story will be around for a long time... In Ukraine, food supplies are running low, so it will not be possible to buy food for humanitarian aid locally, but we have to transport it across the border.
