Fire in Batizovce

ADRA also intervenes after the fire in Batizovce.

Dávid Goga has ten children and lives in a settlement in Batizovce under the Tatras. The winter is harsh and keeping warm in a hut made of wood is not easy. They must have been heating more than usual because the roof and the wall caught fire and the house started to burn. Fortunately, the firefighters arrived in time and put out the fire. What the fire didn't take, however, the water took... And the frost.

In cooperation with our ADRA DobroCentre in Gerlachov, the next village, we managed to provide the essentials. We brought 4 cylinders, provided clothes and other necessities. They still need a stove, a cupboard, everything for the kitchen... The Roma from Rakus, who also know them, helped them with food and promised to help them to rebuild the wall that had fallen out, so that they could live in the house again...

„Thanks guys!“ David said goodbye to us with his wife and a flock of 10 children. „For we are all brothers...“

Thanks are also due to the aid coordinators and the municipal office in Batizovce, who are also taking care of these families.

We were leaving, it was - 4°C, it was blowing hard and it was starting to snow. After 8 hours of travelling there and back I lay down in a warm bed. How good that I don't have a hole in the wall and we have a roof over our heads.

- Stano Bielik, Director of ADRA Slovakia
