Fire in Kecerovce

We helped 6 families who were deprived of a roof over their heads by a devastating fire. Our director Stanislav Bielik writes directly from the field.

In the evening Ferko Turták from the community centre in Kecerovce called me: do you have any sleeping bags, deck chairs, food...?

Social houses in Kecerovce burned down and 6 families were left homeless. However, all our sleeping bags and blankets went to the refugee aid centre on the border in Vyshne Nemecky.

So the phone calls started about who can help and how. The mayor and the people from the community centre in Kecerovce are really active. They provided the affected families with alternative accommodation in the kindergarten, deckchairs, blankets and everything they needed for the 36 people who had lost everything.

I was just returning from the ADRA DobroCentre in Košice with a delivery overloaded with non-perishable food. I stopped at the well-known community centre in Kecerovce. We had prepared a large box for each family - more than 25 kg of basic non-perishable food. In coordination with the mayor, we prepared a distribution plan so that families would gradually receive aid over the next month until they were back on their feet.

We have been cooperating with the community centre in Kecerovce for a long time. In addition to donating material aid, our ADRA Bus - Mobile Vaccination Unit served there during the pandemic.
