Year of war, year of aid

Exactly one year has passed since the outbreak of war in Ukraine.

The Russian invasion has left thousands dead and millions destitute. This aggression has caused a crisis of unprecedented proportions, but it has also awakened compassion and sympathy in our society.

We have been helping people in Ukraine since the war began. Our assistance has been directed as follows:
  • We distributed 700 tonnes of food, hygiene items and clothing to more than 150,000 people in Ukraine
  • We handed over 70 generators to health facilities and collective centres
  • More than 50 tons of medical supplies were handed over to 3 hospitals
  • We have provided material assistance to more than 10 000 refugees in Slovakia through our ADRA DobroCenters and Who will help Ukraine Aupark
  • We have provided emergency assistance and psychosocial counselling to thousands of people at the border

„As aid workers, we see the daily suffering of children, women, men, elderly and young people affected by war. We see destruction, violence, death. As long as the war continues, this trauma will continue. It is time to bring hope and peace back to a devastated country, on both sides. I call on all decision-makers to remember the meaning of life and to open the path from darkness to light. My heartfelt thanks and appreciation go to all those who are contributing to alleviate suffering and bring hope to those who have already lost it. ADRA will be relentless in serving and fulfilling its mission as stated in ADRA's motto: Justice, Compassion and Love,“ said Tomas Petracek, Head of Programmes and Emergency Response, ADRA Europe.

„The armed conflict that began a year ago has affected the lives of millions of people in Ukraine. The suffering cannot end if the war continues. The only way to preserve lives and allow people to live in dignity is to achieve peace. We cannot go on like this. The future of future generations cannot be put at risk,“ said João Martins, Executive Director of ADRA Europe.
