Mayon volcano in the Philippines awakens

After seven volcanic earthquakes, Mayon volcano in the Philippines remains on a level 3 alert.

Seismologists warn that a powerful eruption could occur in the coming days or weeks. This threat is forcing local residents to leave the affected areas urgently.

An eruption of the volcano would have serious consequences for people living in the surrounding areas. The area is threatened not only by ash rain, but also by the disruption of the supply of basic necessities and the forced displacement of the population. Local authorities warn of at least 10 200 families affected in 26 villages.
