Zam Zam lost her children and her entire family during the civil war in South Sudan. She managed to escape to Uganda with her seven orphaned grandchildren.

Ssetuba Jabo, Nanteza Janet, Kasoma John Paul, Abdul Karim, and Sserwaniko Rogers live with their grandmother in the Kibwa slum settlement on the outskirts of Kampala.

Zam Zam doesn't have a job and tries to support his grandchildren by collecting scrap metal and garbage. They live in a rented shack made of dirt that has only one room. Nevertheless, the grandmother does everything for her grandchildren, whom she loves very much and is eager to provide them with an education.
