ADRA Slovakia is alive with volunteering not only during Volunteer Week

Our organisation has a long-standing commitment to volunteering and capacity building in the field of volunteering, both at home and in the developing world. Consistent preparation, ensuring the safety of the young people we send, and participating in meaningful projects is important to us (while managing volunteers and volunteers). A few weeks ago, we even received a certificate from the European Commission as a good and safe organisation - sending volunteers abroad. Soon we will be sending our first EU Aid volunteers out into the world. Our ADRA's good name is also made by the young people who are on a volunteer „mission“ right now.

ADRA evenings about volunteering in the Philippines

Volunteer Barborka Šišková spent eight months working on development projects in the office of ADRA Philippines. At two ADRA evenings with the subtitle ‘Philippines - Behind the curtain of paradise’ in Bratislava and Košice, she spoke to the attendees about how during her activities she had the opportunity to get to know ordinary people who cherish their family above all else, who are selfless and warm-hearted, despite frequent natural disasters in their home country and persistent poverty among most of them.

Important work with children from Albanian communities

Another ADRA volunteer is Veronika Zimová. In the office of the partner organization ADRA Albania she is involved in the implementation of four projects - focused on working with children - with learning disabilities or from local minority communities. The country has grown close to her heart and although it is full of contradictions, it never ceases to fascinate her. Veronika is excited that the school year has already started and she will be heading out of the office and into the field again. We are already looking forward to her immersive activities back home in Slovakia.

Another volunteer - ready to help in Georgia

We recently saw off another volunteer on his stay, this time to Georgia. This was again thanks to the support of SlovakAid, which finances the sending of volunteers to developing countries. Martin Pavelka will be in Tserovani together with the local organization For Better Future to support the social activities of internally displaced people (IDPs). Prior to his departure, he completed pre-departure training and an internship with us in Bratislava to better understand the principles of effective development cooperation, community development, ADRA projects, and working with people from different cultures, ethnic or religious groups.

Improved yard and garden for the elderly in Košice

We volunteer to the fullest and help at home, in Slovakia. And not just for one week a year! Young volunteers in Košice prove this by getting away from the computer, tablet, mobile phone or textbooks and actively participating in the Volunteering Week event. Our co-worker Peter Miľko from DC ADRA Košice enjoys the day full of selfless volunteer work and good deeds: „In the Care Facility at Ťahanovské riadky we cleaned up the flower beds and part of the yard for the elderly who found their temporary home there. We thank the Košice-North Municipal District for offering us the opportunity to be useful and spend an afternoon working together.“
