In the spirit of our philosophy to teach people and communities the skills to be self-reliant in the long term and to make the results of our aid sustainable, our new project focuses on preserving and improving the work habits of refugees in the 3 camps in Thessaloniki in which we operate. We have set up tailoring workshops where refugees learn to sew and sewing. In this way they fill their time waiting for the asylum process to start, which is still very lengthy in Greece. They will acquire afind usefulness and, last but not least, make the clothes they need.
Thanks to the support from ADRA Denmark we bought sewing machines and sewing and needlework supplies. We coordinate the activities and the sewing and lacing classes are taught by refugees who have worked as tailors in the past.
