After 3 days on the road, we unload the truck and our small truck with generators for the institutions of this city.
It's clear and bitterly cold, -23°C at night... The hot water supply in the city has been cut off. Electricity is only supplied for a few hours according to a schedule that is constantly changing. The temperature in the flats is around 13-15 degrees. Where heating is dependent on electricity even less. When there is no heating, the water freezes, the heating and drinking water connections are torn up... Those who can escape from their flat to their friends somewhere in the suburbs where there is a wood-burning stove. People are warming themselves in relief centres. The worst of it is for the elderly and children who don't understand... And we don't understand either, so we prefer to help.
The city was again under shelling, sirens and drones were blaring all night, explosions were heard. People are tired. Children are not going to school, kindergartens are closed.
That is why we, as ADRA, are also involved in the implementation of aid from public collection „Warmth for Ukraine,“ organised by Embassy of Ukraine in Slovakia in cooperation with the Donio donor platform and partner organisations.
Our ADRA team took advantage of the experience and thanks to the extraordinary dedication of the people in this collection we were able to buy, clear customs, import and unload the first truck with 13 large and 13 small generators for the most important institutions of the city such as hospitals, centers for helping people, emergency services, (firefighters, paramedics), waterworks, homeless shelter, schools, kindergartens, etc. in record time. In close coordination with the city, our local staff and volunteers manage the distribution so that each generator finds its place and starts working right away.
