From the ADRA Slovakia office, we would like to greet all our long-time supporters, as well as those who have only recently started following our blog and newsletter. Many of you have volunteered or interned with us, which has helped you have verified on their own skin, that the results of our work are real and that together we are really changing the lives of the needy for the better - both in the so-called developing world and at home, in Slovakia.
We've been thinking about this for a long time in our team, how to formulate our appeal in a way that makes it understandable and motivates you to donate your 2 % of tax to our organisation - ADRA Slovakia. March is not only the month of the book, but also the beginning of spring and the time when we file our tax returns. It is during these days that you will receive a little more emails from known and unknown people, sponsored posts from dozens, maybe even hundreds of Slovak NGOs and civic associations will pop up on your social networks, which will apply for your 2 % of tax. Same as we.
We didn't end up having a consultation with a copywriter, which would have only cost us more money and energy, and we decided not to try to impress you with nice-sounding speeches. Sincerity for sincerityA: If you are not convinced by our concrete activities and real results on the ground, even the best-sounding slogan would be useless. And since you've been following our work for a month now, you know that we really don't rub it in the wind and do what we believe in, we do on 100 %. As our old slogan says, which even after 25 years of ADRA's existence does not need to be changed: “We can't help everyone, but together we can help many.” And although the text of our appeal could easily end here, we continue...
While we remain committed to providing humanitarian aid, development cooperation and sending global volunteers to the world's poorest regions, we will not use your money to fund these activities. The entire amount we raise through the donation of 2 % from your taxes will go to help the needy in Slovakia (just like last year).
Somewhere around here, that hired consultant-copywriter would have probably already stopped us, saying that our call for 2 % tax donations was already too long. But this decision of yours (to donate a given amount of money to us) should be a considered and based on trust in the organisation, as well as on faith in our specific projects. So we ask for a few more minutes of your precious time and full attention.
In Slovakia, in addition to free legal aid and local volunteering, our most intensive work in recent months has been assistance to victims of domestic violence and sexual harassment within our Crisis Intervention Team (KIT). We do this in the form of crisis intervention, social rehabilitation and adaptation, then advocacy and finally necessary prevention. The statistics show us that we must take action and that we can no longer remain silent about domestic violence and sexual harassment. It is not okay for one in three women to experience this type of violence. The functioning of KIT is therefore an absolute priority for us at ADRA Slovakia.

You will finish this last paragraph in one breath. In 2018 we celebrated 25th anniversary of ADRA Slovakia. The year 2019 is once again full of new projects, rare challenges and personnel changes in our team. However, we are and will continue to do everything we can to make sure that those who they can't help themselves. There are many of them here too.
