Since the foundation ADRA Czech Republic 30 years have passed. We were not absent at the celebration of this round anniversary.
„Does the ADRA director have to have a truck license?“ asked the editor during the ceremony of the first ADRA director, Rud Reitz. He smiled and confirmed, „He has to.“.
The story of ADRA began with the delivery of humanitarian aid to besieged Sarajevo, Abkhazia, Mongolia and Romania. Enthusiasts, donors, and volunteers joined in. Only later did they learn that there was an international ADRA aid network they could join.
During their 30 years, ADRA Czech Republic has assisted in various disasters and mitigating the effects of war conflicts in 60 countries around the world. It expanded its network of volunteers especially during the floods in Bohemia and Moravia. Today it is one of the most important and respected humanitarian organisations in the Czech Republic.
During the meeting, former directors and board chairs, representatives of partner organizations and major donors gathered. Michael Kruger - President ADRA International, who praised the service of ADRA in the Czech Republic and highlighted the cooperation within the international ADRA network.
„And my personal memory? Instead of compulsory military service, I did civilian military service in ADRA (which was still Czechoslovakia at that time) and my commander was Rudo Reitz. Together we travelled to help the people of the former Yugoslavia, to Abkhazia... And that infected me. That's why I'm ADRA-positive to this day.“
- Stanislav Bielik, Director of ADRA Slovakia
