ADRA team in Uganda

With our small team we started to finish the construction work on our Slovak farm in Uganda.

Our partners are completing the rough construction of the training center and farm building. Electricity, water, sewer, landscaping, interior, equipment...

We had to adapt to the local conditions, because not everything can be bought like at home and you have to make do with what you can find in the small market stalls in the surrounding towns. We had to import technical things directly from Kampala.

Learning from the hospital project in Kenya, we brought from home all the necessary hand tools, cordless drills, a welder for pvc plumbing, measuring instruments... And we did well, because it is difficult to get a simple hammer or an axe on the construction site, which would also have an axe point.

Miro, Ferko and Stan started to plumbing. Local workers managed to dig 240m of channel for water and sewerage in 1 day! After two weeks of work, our farm already has a water connection, plumbing, waste, and a dug septic tank. Robin has been working on the wiring. He stretched over 400m of cables, light fittings, sockets, junction boxes, earthing... We ceremoniously tested the lights and all the wiring. We just need to secure the connection to the mains. In the meantime, the solar panels will serve us.

Every day when we arrive at the farm, we pass by the refugee registration centre and witness more and more families standing in long queues with many young children for whom the area is becoming a refuge. And it is these people that we are trying to help so that they can make a living on the piece of land that they are given. In the last year we have helped more than 550 families. Our project is very popular with the local people because it helps them to stand on their own feet. Thanks to this, many already know where Slovakia is...

The FOUR project is implemented with the financial support of Slovak AID in cooperation with our partner ADRA Uganda. You too can join our humanitarian mission and support concrete aid for the people living in this area.

ADRA Slovakia has set up a separate account SK65 8330 0000 0020 0179 0154 for this project.
