ADRA Evening

We talked about the challenges of the humanitarian sector and stories from the field yesterday at the Kalab Centre.

Our colleague Saška presented the activities of the Humanitarian Aid Site in Who will help Ukraine Aupark and introduced a new integration service for Ukrainian expatriates living in Bratislava. She explained that the aim of the new activity will be to help the deportees and their families to find schools for children, courses for adults, and to inform them about the administrative and clerical procedures they encounter on a daily basis.

Our director Stano Bielik spoke engagingly about his recent trip to Ukraine and how we help people affected by the war. video report, that we filmed during the trip.

Lebanon is another country where we have been implementing our aid projects for a long time. Our colleague Anna-Maria has just returned from the field to Lebanon to see first-hand the results of our project and how a new sewage system, water tank, latrines and solar-powered lamps have improved the quality of life of Syrian refugees in the Bekaa.

We haven't forgotten Uganda, close to our hearts, and our food self-sufficiency project, ADRA farm and training centre for local farmers, which we and our Ugandan partners built by in the refugee settlement of Kyaka II. Our project manager Veronika also talked about how our situation in Uganda is complicated by the new wave of Ebola, and how the temporary suspension of activities has affected local farmers.

We dedicated a special part of the evening to volunteering opportunities abroad. We presented all ten volunteer placements that we carried out within the framework of the ending humanitarian volunteering project SuDHAV3. Through this unique project, EU volunteers strengthened the boards of four non-profit organisations in Georgia, Turkey, Albania and Uganda.

In 2023 we will send three volunteers to Serbia and Albania through the SlovakAid grant. We also plan to continue sending European volunteers to low-income countries in projects supported by the European Union.

We are glad that we could meet again in this way, get to know our followers and supporters and introduce them to our activities. Thank you!
