What did those kids do to you?

„Wouldn't you need 2 large gas boilers for an institution in Ukraine?“ We received an offer from the University of Ostrava. And so another story of help began...

In the village of Sosnica (Chernihiv region) there is an institute and a special school, where children with various forms of disabilities and mental disabilities from a wide area are concentrated. These children have no idea what war is and why missiles and drones are flying over their heads. Even now the alarm has been raised and so we have seen how quickly the children have learned to evacuate underground. We found them sitting there patiently crammed into cramped cellars. The school had moved bunk beds in here because often the children sleep here so they don't have to be evacuated in the middle of the night.

Brave carers and teachers told us: „We try to play and laugh with them as if nothing is happening. They have no idea of the danger they are in. Then, somewhere in a corner, we cry it out and move on.“ We also tried to smile and cheer them up. (But our hearts were properly squeezed...) Mikhail repeated the sign alphabet to translate for us the thanks from the children with hearing and speech impairments. They handed us small gifts they had made themselves. I really said to myself: „What have these children done for you? Wasn't the suffering that fate has dealt them enough?“

After a 1800km journey and hours in customs, we brought two large gas boilers and all the accessories. The output exactly matches the needs. We even got them inside the boiler room through a narrow door. Of the 4 original boilers here, two had already given them notice, so this is exactly what they needed...

The Director was very grateful, „We have recently received a number of much needed donations and assistance from European countries. A solar system, a generator, equipment and supplies for the children... But these boilers are something really extremely valuable. I am no longer afraid of the cold. We just need to find some sponsors to take care of the connection and installation.“

We leave the institute with strong emotions. There is no doubt that this makes sense. We thank our donors and partners for their generosity and dedication.
