Children belong in school

We visited a school in the Kyjaka II refugee camp to meet the children supported by the HelpKids programme for families from Slovakia.

Thanks to sponsor families, through the program HELPKids In this school we can support education for 28 children and lunches for another 50 children. Also here we have given 3 full large suitcases of toys and school supplies from children in Slovakia. The teachers and children were thrilled. Together with Vierka and Igor, we also had tears on the edge of our eyes when we saw the children - mostly for the first time in their lives - holding a doll or a toy car in their hands.

Thanks to the donations of our donors, the school has also undergone a transformation. The toilet for the children is no longer a hole dug in the ground, but a proper toilet with a septic tank and tiles for hygiene (which is a rarity in the camp). The kitchen has also been transformed - instead of a fireplace, they now have a proper stove.

And how it looks like in our school in real life, see in the short video TU:

We have personally met children who are able to go to school thanks to sponsor families from Slovakia. Thank you good people who gave them the most precious thing - education, as a chance that can change their lives. I would really like to give you the opportunity to personally visit your remotely adopted children and see how they live.

Visiting Claudine Furaha

Together with Vierka, who coordinates the HelpKids program, we visited a little girl named Esther at home. She just sponsors her schooling, so it was quite a personal meeting. Claudine's mom was sitting in front of the mud hut. She told us how she escaped the Congo with a shot leg on two crutches with two small children. When she made it to the Ugandan border, some good people took her in, handed her over to the police, who transported her to a refugee camp.

Years have passed since then. Today, she lives with her four children in a mud hut and, despite the surgery, is still on crutches. Even as we talk, she turns painfully on the stone that serves as her chair in front of the hut. Together with Vierka, however, they were both beaming with joy. Little Esther, who knew us from school, wandered over to Vierka and smiled beautifully. Her mother kept thanking her and lifting her hands and eyes to the sky... Unfortunately we didn't understand the words, but the gestures and smiles did. So much joy all at once in front of one earthen hut. Well, my heart squeezed...

I realised that if we helped change the life of even one person, one family and give one child a chance, then it was all worthwhile. It was thanks to you who decided to help in this way through the HELPKids programme.

And if you are not indifferent to such stories, join us and give yourself the feeling that through small donations we can together make a big difference for people on the other side of the world.
