Volunteer camp

We have joined forces with the organisation Maranatha and the project Touch the sky and during the two-week volunteer camp we helped with the coordination of volunteer activities in Piešt'any.

The activities of the camp focused on young people, offering them the opportunity to get involved in charitable activities in their neighbourhood. We are pleased that despite the hot summer weather, the volunteer teams were full of enthusiasm and helped in several social service facilities.

Spending free time with seniors

Live music, guitar and vocals, as well as conversations about deep themes and life stories. This was the character of the activity that the volunteer teams carried out at the Kalinčiakova Nursing Home in Piešt'any. The facility provides accommodation and social services to seniors who have no one to take care of them. In spite of the difficult times that the clients of the centre had to go through in the past, they did not lose their zest for life and spent moments full of fun and human closeness with the young volunteers.

Volunteers came to the facility to fill the seniors„ time, but as they say, they got more than they bargained for: “We didn't do you a favor, quite the opposite. You have enriched our lives with your kind looks, smiles, hugs, and sharing of interesting life stories. We have enjoyed our time with you very much. We felt your acceptance and joy in our time together. Thank you!"

In addition to the social and creative activities, some of them also enjoyed a few minutes of massage. One of the clients of the facility had been a masseuse in the past and was very happy to brush up on her years of experience.

„May you continue to make people happy and put smiles on their faces. You have given us a lot of positive energy, for which we want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts,“ the facility's clients tell the volunteers.

Beautification and cleaning of outdoor areas in sanitary facilities

Skilled volunteer teams visited the Centre for Children and Families in Piešt'any, where they improved and renovated the outdoor spaces. The facility can now enjoy a new lawn and fencing, a painted gazebo and a clean swimming pool for the children.

Volunteers also helped the „Child Care Facility for children under three years of age“ and beautified the surrounding area, planted ornamental flowers, trimmed trees and helped with weed removal. For the „Piešt'any City Services“ they beautified public spaces and cleaned pavements and roads.

They planted flowers in the garden where the clients spend a large part of their day, swept the walkway and cleared the area of litter and weeds.

Interior glazing and railings

Volunteers gave a new look to the railing in the Domum social services facility. „I would like to thank the ADRA organization and all the volunteers who have made our Domum Social Welfare Centre so much better. We really appreciate it. When I arrived at the facility, I was greeted by a beautifully painted railing. You did it perfectly! Thank you all very much. You have helped us a lot. I salute all the volunteers and a big THANK YOU for volunteering.“

Domum provides help to people who find themselves on the margins of society. Homeless people, as well as mothers with children who find themselves in a bad financial situation, find a roof over their heads in their dormitory.

Packing humanitarian aid for people in Ukraine
In our Trenčín warehouse, volunteers have prepared several pallets of humanitarian aid - food and hygiene packages, which will be sent to needy families in Zhitomir, Ukraine, in the next few days. They are going through a difficult time due to the war and the related food shortages and rapidly rising prices. The UN estimates that more than 10 million people are experiencing a food crisis in Ukraine.

Cleaning of the ADRA DobroCentre in Piešt'any
The team of volunteers also got involved in helping needy people and refugees in Slovakia. At our DobroCentre in Piešt'any they helped us with sorting donated clothes and cleaning the dispensing areas. Their help was invaluable, as the area of the DobroCentre serves as a dispensing point for aid and needs regular care.
