This summer we visited the Pohorelská Maša Social Services Home together with our volunteers.
The facility provides care to more than 120 girls and women with varying degrees of physical and mental disabilities. The clients of the facility were very happy to see us arrive and several of them greeted us from afar with shouts of joy, „ADRÁs are here again!“.
We spent the next three days talking with the clients, walking together, playing games, creative activities, singing and even organized a Pohorel SuperStar. We were very pleased that we were able to take clients in wheelchairs on the walk. A new experience for us was visiting a ward with lying and non-speaking patients. We played a few songs for them on the guitar and we didn't even need words to conjure up great joy.
This year we will also take away nice experiences from the moments spent together and the simple joy of life. The clients expressed their gratitude with small gifts and remembered to write us their contact details and addresses so that we could write letters to each other.
Our great admiration belongs to the staff of the institute, who, despite the difficult conditions, take care of the girls every day. Their good work is witnessed by the clients themselves, who pray for them and like to tell us about their favourite tutors and the programmes they practice with them.
We join in wishing them strength and health.
