The situation of the DSS in which Covid-19 occurred is dramatic. Many sick clients and staff. The Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs has asked us for urgent help. From among willing volunteers we operatively formed an ADRA HELP team over the weekend and on Monday morning they were already on duty in the DSS ARCUS in Košice.
Our team currently has three members: an experienced social worker, a spiritual worker and a nurse. Two dedicated day-care workers from Giraltovce have also joined us. The ARCUS DSS, which is struggling with Covid-19, is working under a stricter quarantine regime. Upon entering the building, we all passed an antigen test. This was followed by changing into our suits and the service begins. Our team was assigned to the floor where care is provided to clients battling coronavirus. These seniors of ours also need to be fed, given medication, helped with hygiene, shown compassion... On Monday morning, the doors closed behind our team and they will remain on the ward to serve for a full week. No one leaves the ward during the tour, they work there 24/7, alternating between day and night duty. They eat and sleep there...
So my friends we will be thinking of you, along with local carers and health professionals, to get through this and stay in good health. ADRA also lent 12 germicidal emitters to the DSS to disinfect the rooms.
Does this seem adventurous or heroic to you? Not at all. The real heroes are the staff who have been serving like this for weeks... We just came to help out. We're struggling together to save our seniors.
