Monitoring trip to Istanbul

As part of the project monitoring, we visited Istanbul and welcomed our EU Aid volunteer Orla.

Orla (second from right) successfully arrived at the visiting organization Small Projects Istanbul (SPI), where he will serve as an Income Generation Specialist for the next 5 months. Social Enterprise Muhra will assist with marketing, e-commerce and sales of products made by Syrian refugee women.

In the photo you can see from the right our colleague Martin, Candan (Orla's manager at SPI), an Orla volunteer, and Anas (Orla's mentor at SPI).
Orla, however, is not the first volunteer we have sent to SPI. Before her, our volunteer Martin, who won the „Volunteer of the Year - Heart on the Palm“ award for his volunteer work, worked here for 2.5 years. Martin has been a member of our ADRA team since April and since he knows the SPI organization more than well, he was the one we sent on the monitoring trip. This was to ensure that the host organisation was ready for the arrival of a new volunteer.

And what are the feelings of our colleague Martin, who returned to his former host organisation for a few days? „I think the smiles on our faces speak for themselves. The preparation went very smoothly and it was very nice for me to see my former colleagues. I am confident that Orla will be a great asset to Muhra and will take the organisation to the next level. I also hope he will be able to enjoy what Istanbul has to offer. It is a fascinating city that is full of extreme contrasts and powerful human stories. You just have to give yourself to it,“ says Martin.

We are delighted to be able to send such skilled volunteers to our volunteer projects. I wish Orla every success and we will keep you posted on her volunteer activities.
