The farm in Uganda is alive

We are shining, water is flowing from our own well, we have completed the training centre and the farm buildings. We are preparing the handover ceremony.

Stano Bielik - Director of ADRA Slovakia went on a monitoring trip to Uganda, where we are currently finishing the building of a training centre on the Slovak farm in the Kyaka II refugee area.

A good thing has been done. Today we have our own electricity from solar panels, we have installed sanitary fixtures in toilets and showers, we have finished the septic tank and the sidewalks. Everything is beautifully painted, cleaned, lights are on, water is running... A few months ago it was a big pain. Today we are looking forward to being able to hand over the training centre and the farm to its purpose next week. We have finally moved into the new premises and we have also set up a detached office of the ADRA Slovakia office...

The FOUR (Farming oportunities for Uganda and Rwanda) project, which we implemented with the support of SlovakAID, ends this month, but our long-term humanitarian mission continues. We will ceremonially hand over the infrastructure of the farm and training centre to its purpose and enter a new period of work.

We are opening further training cycles for small farmers, cooking courses in local conditions and various forms of education. We are establishing a new crop of seedlings and vegetables on the farm. Already in March the first of the volunteers will arrive. We are very excited that the hospital is also starting to function and we will be growing more vegetables and fruit to supply the hospital kitchen as well.

Not far from us, hundreds of refugees, mostly from the Congo, are queuing outside the gates of the registration centre every day to find a new temporary home. It is a truly bleak situation, and it is not getting any better, quite the opposite. That is why we from Slovakia have come here. We give people seeds, seedlings, work tools and teach them on the farm how to grow as many vegetables, legumes and cereals as possible in their small plots so that they can feed their own families.

You too can join our humanitarian mission and support concrete aid for the people living in this area, for example by making a charity purchase in our Helpshope .

ADRA Slovakia has also set up a separate account SK65 8330 0000 0020 0179 0154 for this project.
