Visit from Lebanon

Last week our project partners from ADRA Lebanon, with whom we are implementing a sanitation and sustainable infrastructure project in the Bekaa Valley.

For our Lebanese colleagues, Nissren, a field worker, and Jackeline, an accountant, we have prepared financial training to ensure the successful completion of the project by the end of the year.

However, this is not an easy task, as the country has been struggling with a complex economic crisis since 2019 and the Lebanese pound has been rapidly depreciating in value. The exchange rate on the „black market,“ which is in fact the operational market for almost all transactions in Lebanon, fluctuates from hour to hour.

The unpredictability of future developments also directly affects our project activities, budget and payments for individual items. That's why it was important for us to meet in person, exchange financial management experiences and resolve open issues that we would otherwise have spent hours discussing over Zoom.

However, the visit of our Lebanese partners was not only about capacity building, but also about building friendships and trust, which are equally important for the success of any cooperation.
