Moravská Nová Ves was one of the villages where the devastating tornado left a devastation of unprecedented proportions. The church, the municipal office, the square and hundreds of houses are seriously damaged or completely destroyed.
It is to this village that we brought the ADRA Help Team Bus, which serves as a base for crisis intervention of our partner organization ADRA Czech Republic.
„What shall we import?“ I asked the aid coordinator. „No water, there are piles of minerals, no food, and we already have a tent full of cleaning products. But bring nails and fasteners to repair the roofs.“ So we bought nails and screws from the supermarkets on Sunday morning...

Much appreciation goes to the firefighters, rescue workers and volunteers. From Thursday to Sunday, they were able to clear and remove debris from the entire square, cut down dangerously broken trees, and remove parts of roofs that were threatening sidewalks. Before noon, an area was created in the square where we were able to park our aid bus to be on hand for the volunteer teams. The structural engineers inspected the houses and determined which needed to be demolished and which were unsafe. Most of the damaged roofs are already covered with at least makeshift sheeting.

ADRA Czech Republic has surveyed the needs of each household through volunteers and is working together to coordinate assistance in the village. A team of specialists is also coming on board to provide psychosocial support to people in the aftermath of the disaster.
We are grateful for the huge outpouring of solidarity shown by the people of Slovakia over the past few days. There is currently an abundance, even a surplus, of material and volunteer aid at the disaster site. However, after the initial enthusiasm, there will be more difficult days, because new roofs and repairs to houses are a job for the long term and will require enormous costs. We are developing a good and useful cooperation with the Czech ADRA office.
Thank you to everyone who contributed financially through the public collection, which closed on 31.8.2021.
The total proceeds of the collection were 20 936,91.-€.
Thanks to your generosity, we were able to financially support the repair of destroyed houses for 3 affected families in cooperation with ADRA Czech Republic. Moravská Nová Ves, provide material assistance and logistically arrange the service of volunteers through our Help Team Bus.
