We are launching an emergency collection to help people affected by the devastating earthquake in Turkey and Syria.
ADRA Slovakia together with the international network ADRA launches an emergency collection to help people affected by the earthquake in Syria. The earthquake, which had its epicentre in the south-east of Turkey, also shook border areas and neighbouring countries. Hundreds of buildings collapsed or were left permanently damaged. More than 51 000 people lost their lives in Syria and Turkey.
ADRA Slovakia quickly prepared 400 humanitarian aid packages containing sleeping bags and warm blankets. The shipment was transported as part of the humanitarian aid from Slovakia, whose air transport, customs clearance and distribution was provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the EZ.
Our colleagues from ADRA Syria have also arrived in the affected areas and are helping more than 1 100 people in need. The biggest needs are mainly safe shelter, medical assistance, food and water. Warm clothing and blankets are also particularly needed to enable survivors to survive the freezing temperatures well below zero.

Another team of workers is assisting in shelters in Latakia.
Mustafa Bashir, ADRA's field coordinator in Aleppo, said: „We felt tremors while distributing food and saw two other buildings collapse nearby. Dozens more families found themselves homeless... However, the two emergency shelters we served today are at full capacity. To accommodate everyone, we had to keep other schools and mosques open.“
The ADRA team is working on setting up more makeshift shelters and will soon start repairing water and sanitation facilities.

Given the ongoing civil war, ADRA is one of the few international humanitarian organisations working directly in Syria. ADRA has a regional office in Damascus and other offices in the regions directly affected by the earthquake (Latakia, Aleppo, Hama), where it has been providing humanitarian assistance for a long time.
Thank you for being a stranger to the fate of others!
