We will soon send the first EU Aid volunteers on their mission

Before going on the volunteer placement, they still have to train at ADRA.

First pre-departure training for volunteers sent to Albania and Turkey

4.6.2019

This week in Bratislava we are hosting a pre-departure training for future humanitarian volunteers within the framework of our project Humanitarian Volunteers in Action (HVA). Thanks to a busy programme put together by our two project managers abroad, the volunteers will be well prepared for their future work in low-income countries.

The training focuses on their comprehensive pre-deployment preparation (including first aid and security topics), with an emphasis on their specific positions in the partner organisation and the local context in the host country. The EU Aid Volunteers programme places a strong emphasis on safety and security issues during the volunteer's secondment, as evidenced by the fact that already in the pre-selection phase, candidates undergo training under the auspices of the European Commission in one of its cooperating professional agencies. They will then be trained by us and, once they arrive at their host organisation, they will be trained on the spot.

ADRA Slovakia as well as all participating partners in the safety topics draw on their experience, but also on the specific 2-year training in the HVM project, which culminated in obtaining certification. This is a guarantee of a professional and quality procedure in ensuring the safety of the deployed EU Aid volunteer(s). The attached video gives a short insight into the topic:

In just a few weeks, Aya, Laura and Arancha will begin their mission in communities in Albania and Turkey. We wish our humanitarian volunteers every success and gain of experience and skills in their “missions”.

Second pre-departure training for volunteers sent to Albania and Georgia

19.9.2019

Last week we trained the last humanitarian volunteers waiting to be deployed under the HVA project in ADRA Slovakia. Volunteers Cyriakus and Daniele will be sent to our partner organizations ასოციაცია „მერკური“ (Association „Merkuri“) in Georgia and ADRA Albania in Albania. We pay a lot of attention to pre-deployment training in our organization to make sure that we are sending well-prepared volunteers to the field. We are happy to see that there is still a great interest in volunteering abroad and that our volunteers are willing to apply their valuable experience in the humanitarian and development sphere.

You will also be able to follow how our volunteers are doing on our other channels such as Facebook, Instagram, YouTube or blog.sme.sk.
