What happened
The explosion and subsequent fire of an apartment building in Prešov took the roof over the heads of dozens of families.
Several have lost loved ones. The whole of Slovakia came together in a common effort to help.
Acute needs
Hundreds of dedicated people helped with basic needs.
Families who had lost everything needed to be helped to find temporary accommodation and to provide the essentials.
All forces were involved in the coordination of rescue work, many volunteers also helped. Thanks to the service of our team of volunteers, we made personal contacts with some of the affected families, for whom we made a public collection.
Involvement of ADRA
ADRA has launched a public collection. Many small donors joined in with extraordinary generosity. We have closed the public collection as of 31.1.2020. The total proceeds of this public collection amounted to 14 853,92 €. Thank you.
The funds from this public collection were fully donated by ADRA directly to the personal accounts of five specific affected families/individuals. We know the stories of these people personally and intimately because they have already been helped by our volunteers. They include single pensioners, a mother with a child, a cancer patient, people who have no loved ones to help them... For obvious reasons we do not want to disclose their names.
The funds were used to cover their costs associated with the provision of alternative housing and basic living needs.
