On (healthy) relationships and violence

On 8 December, members of the KIT team (lawyer Daniela Borzová and psychologist Lucia Klimáčková) presented their work to people within the Events „Saturday with ADA“. The ladies explained the reasons to those present, why this KIT team was created - based on the factual situation in the field of domestic and sexual violence, as well as the alarming statistics on this issue in Slovakia. They pointed to the number of victims experiencing violence on the one hand, and on the other hand to the absence of assistance - in the form of a low number of facilities (crisis centres) that could effectively help abused persons. They stressed the innovative and concrete forms of assistance of KIT, which is represented by ADRA Slovakia.

KIT team members appealed to those present to donate attention to potential victims from their neighbourhood who may be experiencing abuse but are afraid to talk about their suffering. They explained how to listen to the victim and how to give them a helping hand, where to direct them next. As part of this day on the topic of (healthy) relationships and partner violence, a collection to support the operation of KIT in the CASD congregation at Cablkova 3 in Bratislava and other congregations throughout the Slovak Republic. The same type of event will take place in 2019: on 2 February in the CASD congregation at Ferienčíkova 5 in Bratislava and on 9 March in the CASD congregation in Banská Bystrica.

The members of the team would like to thank everyone who has contributed in any way to the work of KIT, which has also helped the victims of violence themselves. They cannot help themselves, but they also have the right to a life with dignity. We can give them a helping hand in building a new life with dignity.

The issue of violence also resonates among university students

On 11 December, KIT's lawyer, Danka Borzová, participated with a presentation of her team's activities or with a workshop at the „FSEV feste“ at the youngest faculty of Comenius University in Bratislava. Faculty of Social and Economic Sciences within the stand ADRA SLOVAKIA spoke to the young people present about why KIT exists and how effectively helps victims violence in the field.

We have several trainees from this faculty in the ADRA office every year, so it is not surprising that there was a great interest in the issue this time as well. Danka answered the students' curious questions, focused on the logistics of aid and specific forms of intervention. They also wanted to know whether there are (and in what numbers in the Slovak Republic) abused and men, and what it is like to work with men as victims. One of the spring discussions on the warning signs of violent relationships will also take place in 2019 at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities of the University of Applied Sciences. KIT's awareness-raising events are implemented with the support of the Ministry of Interior within the framework of the Crime Prevention Programme 2018.

The students of FSEV UK were also interested in volunteering at KIT. This assures us that young people are seriously interested in the issue and want to talk about it loudly and educate themselves. In this way - discussions and educational activities prevention works effectively. Because only if we are able to identify violence correctly can we not only prevent it, but also combat it effectively.
